Reactivity

Measure by its ability to induce proliferation in D10.G4.1 cells. The ED50 for this effect is <10 pg/mL. The specific activity of recombinant human IL-1 beta is approximately >1.5 x 108 IU/mg. Measure by its ability to induce IL-8 secretion in HT29 cells. The ED50 for this effect is 1.8-5.1 ng/mL.

Buffer System

<0.1 EU per 1 μg of the protein by the LAL method. The protein was lyophilized from a 0.2 µm filtered solution containing 1X PBS, pH 8.0.

Storage Condition

Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C for 1 year. Upon reconstitution, store at 2°C to 8°C for up to 1 week. Further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein or stabilizer (e.g. 0.1% BSA, 10%FBS, 5%HSA or 5% trehalose solution), protein aliquots should be stored at -20°C or -80°C for 3-6 months.

Description

Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) also known as leukocytic pyrogen, leukocytic endogenous mediator, mononuclear cell factor, lymphocyte activating factor and other names, is a cytokine protein that in humans is encoded by the IL1B gene. There are two genes for interleukin-1 (IL-1): IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta (this gene). IL-1β precursor is cleaved by cytosolic caspase 1 (interleukin 1 beta convertase) to form mature IL-1β.
